TPO FOUNDATION COMMEMORATED THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY: SOCIAL JUSTICE AND LABOUR RIGHTS OF WOMEN AND MEN IN B&H


How does the current government treat the labour rights of women and men? Is there a long-term concept to solve these problems in a country where the news on bankruptcy are a daily routine? What are parental and gender rights of women workers? How much the reform agenda does not solve the issues and why there is such a resistance to commemoration of this day? Those were the issues discussed at the activities organised by TPO Foundation on the occasion of International Women's Day.
TPO Foundation organised the panel discussion ''Social Justice and Labour Rights of Women and Men in B&H'' on March 8, 2017 in hotel Bosnia in Sarajevo. The eminent participants were Nerzuk Ćurak, a professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Nermina Baljević, a retired professor of Islamic religion and MA of Gender Studies, Besima Borić,  a professor of Bosnian Language and Literature, a long-term politician and a social democrat focused on the social politics issues, labour rights and social protection and Branka Antić – Štauber, a doctor from Tuzla and the president of the association ''Snaga žene'' Tuzla. The occasion of the panel discussion was remembrance of women's historical battle for rights of all workers.
There was a discussion with students from different faculties on labour rights of men and women at labour market today. The occasion for the panel discussion was the remembrance of historical battle of women for emancipation of the whole mankind as well as the questioning how much religious communities can contribute to solving of issues of workers and how much women politicians. The panel discussion conclusions were that the key segment in emancipation is education and it is time to return the dignity to education because it is the initial point for changes that are supposed to happen for the prosperity of the entire society. Mutual solidarity in demands for change between women and men is of crucial importance to accept the fact that the state, society and public good belong equally to both men and women. In the end active citizenship of the empowered, enlightened and responsible society will lead to positive changes including equation of rights, improvement of services, possibilities and rights of all workers and society in general with the aim of building healthy democratic society.

Beside the panel discussion TPO coordinator Melika Šahinović hosted Jasna Bakšić – Muftić, a professor at the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo, politician Besima Borić and Dr. Branka Antić – Štauber from the association ''Snaga žene'' from Tuzla on TV show ''I Choose Guests'' on the occasion of International Women's Day. The show was focused on social justice and labour rights with the remembrance of key reasons for women's fights for emancipation of the whole humankind and opposition to capitalistic oppression of all workers. It was concluded that Clara Zetkin's  and Rosa Luxemburg's fight is still active and that civil active and enlightened society can and should question roles, responsibilities and relations of women and men in order to achieve social justice in B&H society.
